Photo Guidelines for Your Custom Pet Portrait

A great custom portrait starts with a great photo! Because your final artwork is delivered as a high-resolution digital download, starting with a crisp, clear image ensures every detail of your furry friend looks flawless when you print and frame it.

Follow these simple do's and don'ts to help our artists capture your pet's true personality.

✅ THE PERFECT PHOTO (GOOD!)

For the best results, please submit a photo with the following:

  • Pet facing the camera: We want to see those beautiful eyes! Make sure your pet is looking directly at the lens.

  • Great natural lighting: Soft, even daylight is best. Take the photo outdoors or facing a large window.

  • Face and neck are visible: Ensure your pet's chest and neck are in the frame and not blocked by blankets or extreme angles.

  • Image is sharp and eye-level: Crouch down so the camera is right at your pet's height. This prevents distortion and keeps the focus crisp.

❌ WHAT TO AVOID (BAD!)

If your photo has these issues, we might not be able to draw your pet accurately:

The Wrong Angle

  • Bad angle (looking away): Profile views or looking off-camera hide their unique facial features.

  • Pet not facing the camera: We can't capture their expression from the side or back.

  • Image not eye-level: Taking a photo from above looking down makes their head look disproportionately large compared to their body.

Poor Lighting & Quality

  • Heavy shadow or too dark: If the lighting is dark, we won't be able to match their true fur colors.

  • Poor quality or low-resolution: Screenshots or zoomed-in photos lose important details.

  • Blurry image: If the photo is out of focus, your final digital artwork will lack the sharp, realistic details you want.

  • Face features not visible: If we can't clearly see their nose, eyes, and fur texture, we can't draw them.

Quick Tip: You don't need a professional camera! A modern smartphone takes excellent photos if you use natural daylight and tap the screen to focus on your pet's face.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I send multiple photos?

Yes! We actually encourage it. If you have several good photos of your pet, send them all so our artists can better capture their personality, markings, and details.

What if my pet has passed away?

We understand how important these memories are. If you only have older photos available, send us the best quality images you have, and we'll do our best to create a beautiful portrait.

Can you combine pets from different photos?

Absolutely! If your pets were photographed separately, simply upload the photos and leave a note with your order. We can combine them into one portrait.

What if I'm not sure whether my photo is good enough?

No problem. Upload your photo when placing your order, and we'll review it. If we need a better image, we'll contact you before we begin your artwork.

Do I need a professional camera?

Not at all. Most modern smartphones take photos that are more than suitable for creating a detailed, high-resolution digital portrait.

Will I receive a physical product?

No. All portraits are delivered as high-resolution digital files that you can download, print, and frame however you like.
